FAQ's

Where does the name 'Monster Riot' come from?

It was thought up from a huge list of possibles when we were thinking about collaborating. After looking at what we'd created we thought Monster Riot was the best fit.

Where did you meet?

We met in University way back in 2003. Catherine studied Illustration and Jason studied Animation. We started up Monster Riot in 2010, the same year we got married.

Where can I buy your stuff?

You can buy greetings cards from Lagom, prints from Artisic.ly and all other bits & bobs from Society6.

I have a shop and wondered if you do wholesale?

At the moment, no. We do plan to create our own screen-prints which will be paper and cloth based but anything else will always be created by who we work with.

Are you available for an interview on my blog?

If we're not busy we would love to. Email us here. If you are going to use images from our website/blog please ask our permission first as they're very precious to us.

How do you go about creating a new illustration?

It all starts inside our heads. We scribble the idea and then work on it until it looks pretty. We scan in the artwork and then colour and polish it in Photoshop.

Quentin Blake, Maurice Sendak, Lane Smith, Dave McKean, Shaun Tan, Oliver Jeffers, Jon Klassen, Kevin Waldron, Gemma Correll, Nate Wragg, Pete Fowler, Jamie Hewlett, David Shrigley, Tom Gauld, Edward Gorey, Tony Ross, Tim Burton, Jon Burgerman, Kate Hindley, Leigh Hodgkinson, Sam McCullen, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, the list goes on…

Are you available for commissions?

We might be. Drop us an email and let us know how we can help.

Any tips on how to become an illustrator?

Don't do it! Only kidding, if you're really passionate about illustrating for a living we advise you work really hard and never ever give up! Eventually someone will appreciate all your hard work and give you a break. Best of luck with it all!

What are you currently working on?

If we're not doing client work we're usually hatching our next Masterplan - which in this case is all very top secret.
